Faiszer appeals to political parties to eschew communalism

Former Minister and Parliamentarian Faiszer Mustapha said he would request all political parties to desist from supporting communalism in this country.

He was speaking at a press conference after a group of Muslim Parliamentarians held discussions on the current situation in the country with Communist Party representatives at the party’s headquarters at Dr. N.M. Perera Mawatha, Colombo 8, recently.

Mustapha said following the Easter Sunday bomb attacks, they had decided to have discussions with all political parties to promote reconciliation among communities and request everyone to think and act as Sri Lankans.

They selected the Sri Lanka Communist Party for their first discussion because the party had opposed communalism from its inception as a principle.

He also described former Minister and Communist Party leader D.E.W. Gunasekara as a veteran senior politician who eschewed communalism.

Mustapha who said that certain individuals had brought communalism into the political stage, said they would request all political parties to educate the people and encourage them to eschew communalism and think of all citizens as Sri Lankans.

Communist Party General Secretary D.E.W. Gunasekara and Parliamentarian A.H.M. Fowzie also spoke. Sri Lanka Communist Party Chairman Raja Collure and S. Sudasinghe were also present.
