Education Minister appears before PCoI

Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam yesterday appeared before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) to investigate into the acts of corruption and frauds that have been alleged committed in state institutions from 2015 to 2018.

According to commission sources, a statement has been recorded from the Minister in connection with the complaint lodged that funds were wasted when printing school text books including the picture and the message of subject Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

The complaint was filed by UNP Parliamentarian Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe.

Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had submitted the relevant documents to the Presidential Commission.

Addressing the media after giving statement to the Commisison, Minister Kariyawasam said the price of printing the textbooks were based on the number of pages and not the content of the pages and there was no extra money involved.
