Probe into vehicles that moved out of Temple Trees

Deputy Solicitor General Dilan Rathnayake informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s court that investigations are currently underway on the movements of several vehicles which had left Temple Trees on the day of former Sri Lankan Rugby player Wasim Thajudeen’s death.

DSG Rathnayake stated that Attorney General instructed to release former Narahenpita Crimes OIC Sumith Champika Perera from this case. The former Crimes OIC had been named as a state witness in the case. Accordingly, the Additional Magistrate ordered the suspect to be released from the case. Dilan Rathnayake made these remarks when the magisterial inquiry into the murder of Wasim Thajudeen was taken up before Colombo Additional Magistrate Shalani Perera.

He also noted that Colombo High Court has served indictments on former Deputy Inspector General of police Anura Senanayake for allegedly covering up evidence pertaining to Wasim Thajudeen’s murder.

DSG Rathnayake also told that the Attorney General would file indictments against former Colombo Chief Judicial Medical Officer Prof. Ananda Samarasekara before the Colombo High Court in near future.

Rathnayake stated that inquiry into mobile phone conversations relating to the investigations will be delayed due to the complex nature of the investigation.

Wasim Thajudeen died on May 17, 2012 in Kirulapone when his car crashed into a wall and caught fire. Earlier it was ruled as an accidental death but CID investigations had found that the player was killed before the accident and the accident was staged. The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for October 31.
