Underworld suspects in CCD custody

Two underworld kingpins Ganemulle Sanjeewa and ‘Gotha’ Asanka who were held in the magazine prison have been taken into the custody of the Colombo Crime Division (CCD).

A high-ranking police official said the suspects were taken into police custody last week following a court order, to question them about several underworld crimes including indulging in a weapons racket with some former LTTE members by contacting them on mobile phones while in prison.

A spokesman for the Crime Division said that while in prison, these two suspects had allegedly carried out contract killings with the help of former LTTE members. This had come to light when several accomplices of the duo were arrested and interrogated recently.
