Mutual understanding should be fostered: MP

Terrorism and environments that foster it should be eliminated, Hambantota District MP Mahinda Amaraweera said.

He was speaking at a press conference in Angunakolapelessa, recently.

The MP said that terrorism was the single largest threat to peace and stability in the world, adding that the nation knew too well the cruelty of the LTTE.

He said that the people in the country appreciated the advice of Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith to maintain peace and harmony in the face of tragedy.

The government should commit to reconciling the nation by fostering mutual understanding between the different ethnic and religious groups in the country, while also eliminating prejudice, MP Amaraweera added.

He said that the trafficking of weapons and drugs have also become a grave threat to the world. The unity that prevailed after the Easter Sunday attacks should be strengthened to ensure pace between all communities, the MP added.
