The Chilaw Divisional Crimes Investigation Unit jointly with the State Intelligence Services are on the hunt for a SLPP Chilaw Urban Council member and his son alleged to be involved in a massive drug smuggling racket. Police investigators bared this racket involving the urban councillor and his son, when a suspect was arrested with heroin weighing over a kilogramme near the Katuwapitiya Church in Negombo on March 23.
Police arrested another suspect from the Eththukala area, based on the information provided by the first suspect. Police sources said that these suspects now in police custody had confessed that the urban councillor and his son gave them instructions to distribute the heroin.
A senior official said an operation has been launched with the support of State Intelligence Services to arrest the urban councillor and his son who are evading arrest.
