Russian Centre hosts exhibition for Women’s Day

On March 6, the Russian Centre in Colombo hosted the opening of the exhibition ‘The Orenburg Region of Russia – the Heart of Eurasia’, dedicated to International Women’s Day, which is celebrated today.

The exhibition comprises art photography by the famous Russian nature photographer Sergey Zhdanov, a bright display of silk paintings by the artist and designer Natalia Akakina, and traditional Orenburg downy shawls.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya was the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, organised by the Russian Centre together with the Orenburg Regional Museum of Fine Arts.

Among the special guests were Russian Ambassador Yuri Materi and Advisor to the President on international affairs, Sri Lanka - Russia Friendship Society Secretary and former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia, Dr. Saman Weerasinghe.

At the opening ceremony, guests were also shown a video of the Orenburg region.

The event was attended by Russian and other foreign diplomats, Sri Lankan art critics, members of the Sri Lanka - Russia Friendship Society, the Association of Sri Lankan Graduates from Socialist Countries, and the Sri Lanka - Russia Business Council, Russian compatriots, and students.

The exhibition will be open until March 10.
