Hambantota Magistrate J.A.Nalaka Sanjeewa allowed the Sooriyawewa Police to detain Hettiarachchige Asela Eranga (23) who is a close associate of underworld gangster Makandure Madush, for seven days to continue with the interrogation.
The Magistrate also ordered the remand of the other suspect Y. Nalaka Susantha (38) of Thangalla Road, Meddawatta, Matara who was arrested with heroin on the same day at the Sooriyawewa bus stand based on information during the interrogation from Eranga, until February 22.
It is revealed that both suspects had been in charge of the funeral arrangements of Madush’s father who died in a road accident late last year. The Tangalle Police Unit dealing with organised crimes arrested Eranga with a T-56 gun and 29 live bullets on February 11, while he was hiding at Viharagala in Suriyawewa.
Suspect Eranga of Talgaswatta, Thelijjiwila in Akuressa has had direct connections with Madush. Eranga is also wanted by Police in connection with several crimes.
