The President's Secretary has informed the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) that it will coordinate with them to follow up on agreements made with President Maithripala Sirisena during their recent discussion.
The GMOA expects that coordination will be accelerated after the President's return from the Philippines, GMOA Secretary Dr.Haritha Aluthge said.
He said that nothing or no one can stop the GMOA from acting to prevent the misuse of funds allocated to purchase drugs for cancer patients and to act against corruption in the Health Ministry.
The Oncologists' Association has informed the GMOA that the amount of corruption when purchasing cancer drugs is unbelievable, he said.
Cancer drugs are now being purchased through the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) which is led by Directors appointed by the Health Minister without proper procedure, Aluthge added.
