CH win over Air Force, the highlight

CH and FC’s win over the fighting Airmen was the highlight of the four matches played in the Dialog League inter-club rugby tournament last weekend. CH scraped through to a close 26- 18 win at Race Course grounds in Colombo.

It was the CH and FC forwards who gave a scintillating display under the leadership of former Sri Lanka skipper Yoshitha Rajapaksa. Their three quarters excelled in both attack and defence winning an abundance of possession creating problems for the experience Air Force three quarters who failed to play to their potential other than centre Charith Seneviratne. Rohitha Rajapaksha who switched to fly half midway in the second half entertained the entire crowd present with his exceptional tactical kicking, booming kicks to touch and dazzling runs.

Captain cum flanker Yoshitha Rajapaksa, second row forward Chathura Dilashan, co- flanker Niwanka Prasad, scrum half Avishka Lee played a tremendous game for the Maitlend Crescent outfit.

CR beat Police

CR & FC who got their act together finally ran riot over a fighting Police sports club outfit thumping them by 38- 18 at Police Park.

CR got their momentum going from the very first minute of play where their forwards together with their three quarters combined effectively to notch up this superb victory. Skipper Kavindhu Perera, Charana Chamikara, Shehan Dias, Rahul De silva, Kevin Dixon, Chamod Fernando and Reeza Rafaideen excelled for the red shirts while play-maker and fly half Tharinda Ratwatte played a key role for CR controlling the game beautifully.

Police succumbed to this defeat failing to carry out the same game plan and pattern they did against Kandy due to their play maker Fijian Emosi Vunivosa could not take the field as per the high court enjoining order suspending foreign player participation in the ongoing ‘Dialog’ league rugby tournament.

Havies lucky to win over Navy

Havelock SC were really lucky to beat a fighting Navy sports club by 22-18 in there league rugby clash that took place at Havelock Park.

Havies who could not play their normal game there by got everything wrong and were a confused bunch of lads and it was no surprise that they won the game by a whisker.

Hero for Havelocks outfit was none other than their national centre former St.Anthony’s college Kandy captain Dinuk Amarasinghe who had an outstanding game along with former Trinity winger Sasahan Mohammed who scored two superb tries.

Navy prop forward Charith Silva and number eight Radeesha Senevitayne once again stood out from the rest by creating the opportunities for the Sailors by punching holes at the Havies defence many a time, but lacked support from the other team mates.

Kandy gun down Army

Defending champions Kandy Sports Club showed their dominance with a smashing 38-10 win over Army Sports Club after leading 14 - 5 at lemons at Air force ground in Ratmalana. It was a mixture of their forwards and three quarters that enabled Kandy team to create this win.

The men responsible for Kandy’s win were Heshan Kalhara, Danushka Ranjan, Roshan Weerathne, Buwenaka Udangamuwa and Thilina Wijesinghe - who was on target with his boot giving some very important points. Meanwhile Sudaraka Dikkumbara and Sugath Nanayakkara had a superb game for the fighting Army team scoring the two tries .
