Joint Opposition calls for General Election now

The Joint Opposition challenged the Government for a General Election if they claim Wednesday's protest to be unsuccessful.

The Janabalaya Kolambata protest was the most successful protest campaign ever in the political history of Sri Lanka, MP Namal Rajapaksa said yesterday.

Addressing a news briefing organised by the Joint Opposition at the SLPP office in Battaramulla yesterday, Rajapaksa said they were able to accomplish the task more than they expected amid Government’s moves to sabotage the protest and prevent it from taking place. He said that the Government still says that the protest was a failure. We can’t fathom as to why they say so after having witnessed the mounting displeasure from thousands of people gathered in the protest,” Namal said.
