The Ministers' Former Secretaries' Union yesterday urged all left wing political parties to extend their support to the President to continue his good governance agenda for the betterment of the country.

Addressing the media yesterday at the Library Services Board, Ministers' Former Secretaries' Union General Secretary Ajith Jayasundara charged that most of the politicians having close relationships with the President acted immaturely during the election period and tried to fish in muddy waters.

He said the behaviour of some politicians badly affected the local government election results of the SLFP, they charged.

“During former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's era, politicians belonging to Local Government bodies misused their power and engaged in corrupt activities. As a result, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa lost power two years before the end of his term.

Therefore, newly appointed Local Government members should be properly monitored,” he added. “As a pro-SLFP union, we are satisfied with the votes received by the SLFP. Both the SLFP and SLPP received the votes of leftists. Thus, the increase of the number of leftists’ votes is a good sign,” he added.
