IUSF Convener remanded for violating Court orders

The Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday (11) ordered to remand the Inter University Student’s Federation Convenor Lahiru Weerasekara and Inter University Bhikkhu’s Federation Convener Ven. Tanpitiye Sugathananda Thera till October 26 for allegedly violating a Court order while engaged in a protest held in Colombo on October 10, demanding the government to abolish SAITM.

When the two suspects appeared in court over another case filed against them, the Kollupitiya Police complained that several protestors including the suspects had disregarded the Court order and attempted to proceed towards Temple Trees despite the Court order being read to them, urging not to proceed with the procession causing disturbance to public peace and obstructing the regular traffic flow.

Taking into consideration the facts that they involved in violating a Court order, Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered to remand the two suspects till October 26. Police are conducting investigations to arrest other suspects involved in the incident.
