Murder suspect given 5-year RI

Kurunegala province High Court judge Menaka Wijesundera imposed a 5-year RI on a person convicted of murder of a couple in July, 2008, yesterday.

This couple, retired School Teacher S. Senasinghe and his wife Manaka Fernando, was found hacked to death on July 28, 2008. The accused was indicted by the Attorney General.

State Counsel Lahiru Jayamanna said in Court, the accused had entered the victims' house at 10.00 pm with a 'manna' knife and proceeded to murder them.

He also robbed jewellery and electrical equipment worth of Rs. 500,000. Following this, he was apprehended by the Mawathagama Police.

Further, the state counsel said, the accused had been released from prison.
