Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Affairs D M Swaminathan, as a result of the negotiations held between Minister Swaminathan and the Defence Secretary last week, the Ministry of Defence had informed the Minister that they would be releasing 279 acres from the Keppapilavu area on or before May 15, 2017. 248 acres of State land from the Keppapilavu village area and 31 acres of private land from Seeniyamutai village area would be released on the mentioned date and the Minister had also agreed to pay Rs.05 million from the Ministry of Resettlement to the Ministry of Defence to release another 189 acres of private land.
After the payment of Rs. 05 million, the Ministry of Defence had agreed to release the land within one month and a total of 468 acres of land would be released.
These lands are released under the directions of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
