Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has ordered the Health Ministry’s Medical Supplies Division to suspend the type of dye used for the four heart patients who died, Health Ministry sources said. According to sources, the use of the dye, (Non ionic contrast media for cardio angiography for adults 100 ML) will be temporarily halted in all hospitals.
The National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) has commenced an investigation on the dye imported from European countries.
“The dye was available at the Colombo North Hospital, Monaragala, Jaffna, Karapitiya, Colombo South, Badulla, Kurunegala, Kalutara, Peradeniya and Colombo National Hospitals. The directors of those hospitals had been informed about suspension of the use of the drug,”sources said.
