Major tourism sector branding, investment drive from 2017 - PM

The Sri Lankan tourism sector will play a major role in the island’s economic agenda, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said.

Speaking to over 300 French Travel Agents who attended the French Travel Agents’ organisation congress in Colombo at the Galle Face Hotel on Tuesday night he said both countries can learn from each other. “We can learn from the French on their marketing skills and in turn France can learn from

Sri Lanka as to how to be resilient during turbulent times and hang on,”the Prime Minister said.

Wickremesinghe said that the government is planning several tourism zones especially in the North and East.

“We will clear around 2,000 acres of land for this.”

He also said that Sri Lanka would be announcing a new branding exercise next year for tourism.

The Prime Minister said that the hill country in Sri Lanka will be developed to cater to woo more tourism investments. Sri Lanka is looking at projecting the hill country as an up market boutique destination.
