Arms cache found buried in abandoned land

A cache of arms including 1,200 grams of high powered explosives an equipment used to fill the explosive and 18 T 56 live ammunition suspected to belong to LTTE terrorists were found wrapped in polythene and buried in an abandoned land in Welangoda, Kosgoda by Kosgoda Police.

Police said investigations revealed that the land belonged to a female teacher in the area and its adjoining land belonged to a notorious underworld character named Sujie.

Police said the arms were encased in an empty biscuit tin and according to the dates inscribed in the empty tin, the cache seems to have been hidden in this land this year. Police said the cache of arms would be sent for a government analyst inspection and report.
