Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne stated that the Government has paid attention towards introducing a National health insurance scheme for the people of Sri Lankan, Health Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, Minister Senaratne had revealed this during a discussion held with private hospital owners. National health insurance schemes are available in many countries in the world at present, which is a huge relief for the entire population of any country, especially for the needy, who are unable to afford expensive private health services.

Private hospital owners have also requested from Minster in connection with the existing human resources issue in private sector health services. Minister Senaratne stressed that his main intention is the upgrading and safeguarding of free health services in Sri Lanka, while developing the private health sector, he said.

Private Health Services Regulatory Council regulates private health services in Sri Lanka, while the Director of Private Hospitals is Dr. Ms. Kanthi Ariyaratne, he added.
