Work on Matara-Beliatta railway line on the boil

 

 Work on the Matara-Beliatta railway line will come to an end by 2017. Over 8o percent of work is over, Project Director V. Amaratunga said. He said the biggest railway station in the south will be set up in Beliatta. The project is funded by China. About 229 acres belonging to 1,225 families were acquired. The railway line will run across the Matara-Hambantota main road at Beliatta and Dikwella.

Railway stations will be set up at Kekanadura, Babarenda and Wewrukannala. The railway line will run through two tunnels. The tunnel at Nakuttiya will be the largest railway tunnel in the country, Amaratunga said.
