‘Village of Reconciliation’ in Kokeliya vested in Tri-Services personnel

Defence State Minister Ruwan Wijewardene greeted on arrival

 

Sanhindiyawe Sathvirugama (Sathvirugama Village of Reconciliation), the housing project with 51 new homes at Kokeliya, Vavuniya was vested in Tamil women soldiers and Army personnel married to Tamil women as a reconciliation project on Sunday.

The houses were built by 56 Division troops of the Army of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) and 4 Corps of Engineer Services (4 CES) through funds of the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ house construction fund of the Defence Ministry. Defence State Minister Ruwan Wijewardene on the invitation of Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi was the Chief Guest.

Each house erected in 40 perch land slots is worth about Rs 2 million in the ‘Sanhindiyawe Sathvirugama’, without any labour cost because of the involvement of troops.

State Minister Wijewardene handed over the keys of the 51 new houses to Tamil female soldiers, soldiers married to Tamil women and vice versa, a soldier with seven children, and next of kin of the rape victim, Vidhya who was murdered several months in Jaffna. Ministers, Army Commander Lieutenant General Crishanthe de Silva, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinghala, Civil Security Department Director General Chandrarathne Pallegama and Security Force Headquarters - Wanni, Commander Major General Boniface Perera also participated.
