Only Cabinet would decide on power cuts

The Government emphasized that taking a decision on power cuts would only be made by the Cabinet of Ministers headed by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe.

"The Government would not allow the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) or the Engineers' Association of the CEB to take decisions on power cuts," sources said.

The Committee Report of the Ministers on Electricity is to be handed over to the President and Prime Minister today (29). After taking this report into concern, the matter on the electricity crisis will be taken up at the Cabinet meeting presided by the President and the Prime Minister.

The Government also asserted that it would not allow the restriction of water supply based on the electricity issue.

The Government also pointed out that it was the responsibility of the Water Supply and Drainage Board to take measures in supplying water systematically at a time when the water level of the reservoirs go down.
