'Lanka's foreign policy should be geared to promote friendship'

Sri Lanka now needs a foreign policy which will promote friendship with all the countries and power blocs. If not, the country will get marginalized in the international world. In such a situation strengthening diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and other countries will be very important, Special Assignments Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama said.

President Maithripala Sirisena is now on an officials visit to Germany.

This is the time where a Sri Lankan President is visiting Germany after 15 years. Sri Lanka and Germany are annually exchanging around one billion rupees through exports and imports. The best part of that advantage is accrued to Sri Lanka.

"Because of that Sri Lanka should pay more attention towards having a better place for local products in the international market than receiving credit from foreign countries," he added. Addressing a press briefing held at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Headquarters the minister said that Sri Lankan products had failed to fetch a good price in the international market during the last ten years due to the conflict situation that prevailed in the country and the failure of Sri Lanka's foreign policy.
