MR tipped to lead new political party

The discussions aimed at forming what is called a broader people's movement against the government has concluded and this movement is to be led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, reliable sources from the Common Opposition told the Daily News yesterday.

Sources said the leaders of the Common Opposition has agreed to form this movement to reach the grassroots level ahead of Local Government election before forming a political alliance against the government.

The new people's movement will come into being within next two weeks at grass root level and it will help create a new political alliance with the blessings of all political parties in the opposition
