The funeral of Lands Minister M K A D S Gunawardena who died on January 19 will be held with full state honours at the Leelaratne Grounds, Kantale, on January 23 afternoon.
The funeral arrangements were finalised at a meeting chaired by Trincomalee GA N A A Pushpakumara at the Kantale Divisional Secretariat with the participation of DIG Macarthy Perera on January 20.
The remains of Gunawardena brought to Kantale on January 21 will be received by his relatives and people in the area at Agbopura and conveyed in a motorcade to his residence at Kantale, said Divisional Secretary K P Premadasa.
It will lie in state at his residence until January 23 for the public to pay respects. Thereafter the remains will be taken to the Leelaratne playgrounds in the afternoon for the funeral ceremony. The cremation will take place after religious rites and funeral oratories.
