Three Cassowary birds arrive from Thailand today

Three Cassowary birds brought to Sri Lanka under the animal exchange programme, is scheduled to reach Sri Lanka today (5) by air from Thailand. They include two female birds and one male bird.

 According to Director General of the Zoological Department Thilak Premakantha, two cassowary birds are currently in the Dehiwala Zoo and both of them are male birds.

The cassowary is a large, flightless bird and they mainly eat fruit.

The birds were supposed to be brought to Sri Lanka by SriLankan Airlines on Monday, but due to an issue with regard to air conditioning, arrangements have been made to bring the birds to Sri Lanka by Malaysian Airlines.
