Plan to issue revenue licenses for vehicles with antique value

The Government is preparing to issue revenue licenses subject to a subsidized annual fee for vehicles with antique value that have been kept idle in houses for a long period without renewing the revenue license due to the large amounts that has be paid as fines for the lapsed period.

This decision has been taken according to observations made by the Motor Traffic Department that owners of such vehicles are reluctant to renew revenue licenses due to the fines that have been paid for the overdue period.

Motor Traffic Commissioner General Nishantha Weerasinghe said under the guidance of the Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana, Cabinet approval will be sought to provide a relief to such vehicle owners when renewing revenue licenses.

Accordingly, he further said that they are taking steps in the future to give permission under this relief scheme to put such vehicles which have been kept at home for a long time back on the roads.
