Drug addict kidnappers caught in Pettah

An Army soldier and another man who tried to kidnap and rob a young man on a three-wheeler at Bastian Mawatha, Pettah, while posing as policemen, were arrested last Wednesday (28) by a Pettah Police Sergeant. A 23-year-old youth was stopped by a three-wheeler near

the railway depot and a person there introduced himself as a police officer and checked the young man saying that information was received that he was in possession of drugs. After checking, the young man was told to come to the police station by the two suspects with the intention of going to a deserted place and robbing him. But that three-wheeler was randomly inspected by Sergeant Pushpakumara of the Traffic Division of the Pettah Police Station and he found out that the suspects were not policemen.The Sergeant arrested the two suspects. Pettah police said that one of the suspects was a 38 year old soldier who works at the Panagoda army camp. It has also been revealed that the two suspects are addicted to drugs, and they have committed several crimes like this before.
