Galle District team emerged Champion of the Women’s Under 23 Inter District Cricket tournament conducted by SLC yesterday. Galle District team beat Gampaha District team by 18 runs in the final played at Surrey grounds Maggona yesterday.
Galle District Women’s team batted first and were bowled out for 92 runs in 18.2 overs. Nethagi Isuranjali scored 30 runs in 43 balls with 2 boundaries and Sumudu Nisansala (10) helped to build their innings. Nipuni Navodya and Kavishki Hansima claimed 2 wickets each.
Gampaha District Women’s team scored 74 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Sandali Weerasinghe (16) and Nethmi Gunarathne (11) helped to build their innings. Shashini Gimhani claimed 3 wickets for 14 runs and Lakshi Abhimani claimed 2 wickets for 10 runs.
Galle District team beat Anuradhapura District team by 100 runs and Gampaha District team beat Kandy District team by 53 runs in the semi finals.
Sanjana Kavindi (Galle) was adjudicated Best Batter of the tournament and Nikesha Wijesekara (Gampaha) was adjudicated Best Bowler of the tournament. Nethagi Isuranjali of Galle team was picked as Player of the Final.
