Stubbs’ ton guides SA ‘A’ to 287/6

Tristan Stubbs made a fine knock of 117 as South Africa 'A' were 287/6 in their first innings after second day's play of the second four day game against Sri Lanka A played at P.Sara Oval Stadium yesterday. After Sri Lanka 'A' were all out for 290 with addition to 33 runs to overnight total South Africa A were 287 for 6 wickets at close trailing three runs with four wickets in hand.

Stubbs the right hand number three batter who played a solitary ODI against West Indies on last March played an anchor role for visitors while he completed his third first class century which came in 181 balls with 15 fours and a six as he added valuable123 runs third wicket stand with experienced Keegan Peterson who scored 50 in 143 balls with 4 fours. In fact paceman Vishwa Fernando made an early breakthrough as he got first ball wicket in the innings to dismiss skipper Tony de Zorzi who was LBW for duck. Matthew Breetzke the co-opener scored 10 in 14 balls with two fours and Vishwa Fernando struck his second wicket in the fifth over of the innings.

After Stubbs and Peterson combination of second wicket, Zubayr Hamza (43 in 76 balls with 6 fours) and wicket keeper Kyle Verreynne (an unbeaten 34 in 41 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes) guided them to build up their total.

Vishwa Fernando who replaced for Dilshan Madushanka bowled well at the end of second day taking 3 for 45 while off spinner Lakshitha Mansinghe played a good supporting role to finish the day taking 3 for 45 in his 14 overs spell. The leg spinner Praveen Jayawickrama bowled 27 over spell with giving away 97 runs for no wicket and off spinner Ramesh Mendis also wicket less in his 14 over spell given away 58 runs. However Vishwa Fernando had a leg injury and back to the pavilion in his 14th over and paceman Milan Ratnayake completed his over with bowling two balls.

Earlier Sri Lanka ' A 257 for 7 wickets continued and all out for 290. Ramesh Mendis top scored 62 in 123 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes while Milan Ratnayake 35 in 58 balls with 5 fours and a six also added 65 runs eight wicket stand. South Africa 'A' leg spinner Senuran Muthusamy ended with fine figures of 6 for 101 and paceman Lutho Sipamla ended with 2 for 36 took bowling honors.
