Sri Lanka ‘A’ rout South Africa ‘A’ by 160 runs

Sri Lanka’A’team led by Nipun Dhananjaya put up a good team effort to beat South Africa ‘A’ by 160 with one day to spare in their first four day cricket fixture played at Pallekele International cricket stadium yesterday.

The third day dominated by bowlers of both sides and both teams were bundled out in their second innings on third day which paved the way to Sri Lanka A to victory with one day to spare.

Sri Lanka A got extra advantage of setting up a 345- run winning target for opponents to get nearly five sessions (one and half days) but they were all out for 185 in 50 overs and non of the batter were able to make long innings to avoid the defeat.

Normally Pallekele International cricket stadium wicket favour for paceman but for the first time spinners of the both sides did more damage.

The 29 year old Senuran Muthusamy who got 7-wicket hauls once again took 5 for 53 to restrict Sri Lanka ‘A’ second innings to 151 all out and South Africa ‘A’ team also in deep trouble at their second innings and all out for 185. This Sri Lanka A win gave them 1-0 series lead with their second and final four day game to be played from June 19 at P.Sara Oval Stadium.

Earlier Sri Lanka started their second innings but top order couldn’t make good start and leg spinner Senuran Muthusamy did the damage as Sri Lanka A was 26 for 3 wickets after 7.4 overs. Kamindu Mendis the experienced top order batter tried to repair the innings but he couldn’t make big score and departed to 35 in 50 balls. He was out LBW to Muthusamy. Ramesh Mendis once again struck useful 46 in 63 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes while others failed to impress with the bat.

The leg spinner Senuran Muthusamy who bowled 16.4 overs took 5 for 53 to complete match bag of 12 wickets while paceman Lizaad Williams and Gerald Coetzee played good supporting role to take two wickets each.

South Africa ‘A’ chasing a target of 345 runs couldn’t make good start while paceman Dilshan Madushanka once again bowled really well to put pressure. The spinners Lasith Embuldeniya, Lakshitha Manasinghe and Ramesh Mendis came to the attack very early took two wickets each to tame South Africa ‘A’ for 185 .
