Lankan netballers suffer first defeat

Sri Lanka suffered their first defeat of the tournament when they lost to Singapore 29-51 after a tough game in the Asian Junior Netball Championship played in South Korea yesterday It was very close up to second quarters but in the third and fourth quarters Singapore juniors domineted the game with a clear lead .

Singapore had close battle with Sri Lanka in the first quarter which ended with Singapore leading11/8 while after second quarter Singapore led 21/13 and Sri Lanka managed to get only five points .However third set was dominated by Singapore with more quick passes and they used their experience to collect their points easily.

Singapore defenders did good work while centre quarter also was more powerful than Sri Lanka team.After the third quarter Singapore were able to get a 36-22.lead

The fourth and final quarter Singapore changed their tactics with quick passes while Sri Lankan lasses missed some chances under pressure against strong Singapore team.The final score read 51/29 in favour of Singapore

Sri Lanka team skipper Sajini Ratnayake in an exclusive interview with Daily News after the game said they were little bit nervous during this game which was the toughest game so far in this tournament.We had a plan before this game but it not work out well with our players making lot of mistakes which resulted in our defeat . .But Singapore side is very strong and they have experienced players and they played more matches to get exposure before this tournament We did not get that chance but we know our mistakes and want to rectify that against strong Malaysia on June 15 .

Meanwhile Sri Lanka head coach Amalka Gunatilleka said we wanted to less points d ifference at this Singapore game but experienced Singapore players did really well .We will play next game today ( 14) against Chinese Taipei followed by Malaysia the strongest team of the tournament. We haven't experience players and lack match exposure but we are going to do well said coach Amalka .
