Maliyadeva Girls School, Kurunegala emerged Champions of the Girls All Island under 20 division one Football by beating Mahajana College Jaffna Girls on penalties ( 6/5 )in the final of the Girls under 20 football Championship, organised and conducted by the Sri-Lanka Schools Football Association at the Mahajana College ground, Jaffna recently.
Teacher-in-charge, W.A.H.A. Weerakkody playing a major role by looking into their needs throughout the tournament and the able support and co-operation coming from the Principal, P.N.S.D.Abeywickrama, Vice Principal, D.M.Indunil Dissanayake, POG, Anuruddhika Weerasekera, Parents and Coach M.A.Sathyaras and Assistant Coach Pala guiding them enabled them to achieve this Championship all the way travelling to Jaffna and playing on the opponents home ground. Hiruni Hunukumbura of Maliyadeva Girls School, Kurunegala was adjudged as the best Goal Keeper in this Girls under 20 All Island Football tournament.
