“Sri Lanka committed to a nuclear-weapon-free world”

Environment Minister Naseer Ahamed assured the continued commitment of Sri Lanka towards the cause of achieving a nuclear-weapon-free world through the banning of nuclear tests.

He gave this assurance to Executive Secretary to the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Dr. Robert Floyd. Environment Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe was also present at the meeting.

The CTBTO Executive Secretary had a fruitful discussion with the Minister and explained the importance of having a close relationship in technical aspects beneficial to all parties and the wider technical and scientific community.

Sri Lanka is the 13th country to have signed a Facility Agreement, in June 2000, after having signed the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty on October 24,1996.
