Natasha’s rant: YouTube channel owner ‘Bruno Divakara’ arrested

Officers of the Computer Crimes Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department yesterday arrested Bruno Divakara, the owner of a YouTube channel that aired  the defamatory statement of Natasha Edirisuriya, against Buddhist philosophy during a concert held in Colombo.

Bruno Divakara, the YouTube owner, has been arrested thus. He was called to the Computer Crimes Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department and was interrogated for about six hours from 10 am onwards and had been arrested subsequently.

The Computer Crimes Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department stated that the owner of this YouTube channel has four YouTube channels. The investigations conducted by the Computer Crimes Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department have revealed that the owner of this YouTube channel is a person who came to Sri Lanka after working in Italy for sometime. A senior police officer said that the statement made by Natasha Edirisuriya is a statement that has caused disunity among nationalities and several channels, including this YouTube channel, have been spreading that statement and are working to create disunity among races Accordingly, the official said that investigations will be conducted on every YouTube channel that spread Natasha’s statement and gave it unnecessary publicity.

Natasha Edirisuriya was arrested by the Computer Crimes Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department at the Katunayake International Airport on May 28 when she was about to flee to Singapore.

Investigations were conducted based on a complaint made by the Commissioner of Buddha Sasana to the Inspector General on May 27 and she was arrested thereafter.

She was remanded until June 7 after being produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court. The Criminal Investigation Department stated that it has already received many complaints against this statement and the persons who aired the statement. This insulting statement was made during her comedy show ‘Modabhimanaya’.Information from the Criminal Investigation Department stated that the investigation regarding this statement is being conducted under the provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act.
