Two youth knocked down by train in Veyangoda

Two youth were killed by a train while travelling along the railway line while making a phone call near Wadurawa Railway Station yesterday (25) around 5.45 am while on their way to go on a picnic, Veyangoda Police said.

The deceased were Kawishka Lakmal (18) and S.A.Thiwanka (19). Both were residents of Veyangoda. They were knocked down by the express train which was running from Badulla to Colombo Fort.

While a train was travelling to Colombo on the scheduled route, the train from Badulla to Colombo arrived on the other railway line. Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the two youths may have walked on the outline believing that no train would come on that line. The houses of the two deceased youths are located near the railway line and preliminary police investigations have revealed that they had planned to go on a trip in the morning and walked along the railway line towards the Wandurawa station.
