We have to groom young cricketers and they are our future, said Chance Sports chairman and Managing Director Lasantha Amarasinghe who are the sponsors of ongoing Nelson Mendis Under 12 and Under 14 cricket tournament which is conducted for the 18th time.
‘Chance Sports’ Nelson Mendis Under 12 tournament comprised 20 cricket Academy teams divided into four groups while 15 teams divided into three groups are playing under 14 tournament. This Academy tournament always give match exposure for the juniors.
The coaches like Nelson Mendis and his brother late Lionel Mendis, two renowned coaches already have produced several top class players like Arjuna Ranatunga, Asanka Gurusinghe, Roshan Mahanama, Kumar Dharmasena, Mahela Jayawardena and there were many leading cricketers from Colombo.
“I am very keen to give support from Chance Sports for the juniors and as a former cricketer of Isipatana College and CCC, I know the importance of sponsorship to uplift the cricket and other sports.
Finding sponsorship is not an easy task due to the prevailing economic crisis. We have to select players and schools who are needed sponsorship and take them to the next stage, said Chance Sports Chairman Lasantha Amarasinghe.
The under 12 and Under 14 Nelson Mendis cricket tournament started from April 6 and will be concluded on May 14th.
