Former President Maithripala Sirisena, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), yesterday said that in the last Local Government Election, the SLFP entered into an alliance with a party unknown even to the people of this country and was planning to contest under that party’s symbol, and fortunately, the election was postponed and both the party and the country were saved.
He said the future governments of this country will be formed with the leadership of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
He was speaking at the May Day rally of the SLFP held in front of the central market in Kandy yesterday.
“The Sri Lanka Freedom Party is the only political party that can build this country. After this, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party will not go after any political party. If anyone wants to, they should form an alliance with us,” he said.
SLFP May Day Committee Chairman Shan Wijeyalal de Silva presented 10 proposals planned by the party on the occasion of May Day to the people.
Party General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara, Deputy Secretary Sarath Ekanayake, Member of Parliament Angajan Ramanathan, United People’s Freedom Alliance General Secretary Thilanga Sumathipala and others participated in this event.
