Big match clash leaves cricketer with severe head injuries

Payagala Police said the Vice Captain of Kalutara Tissa National School Cricket team had sustained serious head injuries after he was hit with a cricket bat at the end of the Cricket big match between Kalutara Tissa National School and Kalutara Maha Vidyalaya.

The incident occurred at the end of the 13th annual one-day match held between the two schools at the Maggona Road Grounds where Kalutara Maha Vidyalaya had won a closely contested match in the last over.

A clash had occurred when some students of the defeated Kalutara Tissa National School, who were watching the match, had invaded the ground and removed the stumps.

Investigations have revealed that around 4,000 people were in the stadium to watch the match at that time.

“The Kalutara Tissa National School Vice Captain is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Kalutara Nagoda hospital and he is scheduled to be transferred to the Colombo National Hospital to undergo a surgery for head injuries,” a hospital spokesperson said.
