Suspect in former Katana PS Deputy Chairman’s murder hospitalised

Warakapola Police said that the person suspected to be involved in the murder of the former Deputy Chairman of the Katana Pradeshiya Sabha was admitted to the Warakapola Hospital last Saturday (29) after consuming poison. The person who was admitted to the Warakapola Hospital has worked with   his wife in a coconut estate of about 100 acres belonging to the 73-year-old former Deputy-Chairman of the Katana PS.

Police also said that there are several security guards working in the coconut estate. “The suspect and his wife were living in one of the guard houses and taking care of a part of the coconut land,” Police said.

Police investigating the murder have revealed that the deceased had a dispute with the couple. Later, another security guard had seen the Deputy Chairman coming to the coconut land last Thursday (27) in his cab. Police suspect that he may have had an argument with the suspect and then the couple may have murdered him. Another guard came near the guardhouse where the suspect resided and saw the Deputy Chairman’s cab and saw that the main gate was locked. Later he went to the guardhouse where the suspect lived and saw the tied-up body of the vice president and made a complaint about it to the Wanathawilluwa Police.

The suspect came to the Warakapola house with his wife last Saturday (29) night after killing the Vice President and admitted to the hospital after consuming poison.

A team of officers from the Wanathawilluwa Police arrived in the Warakapola area yesterday (01) and were to arrest the suspect’s wife who is being treated in the Warakapola Hospital after consuming poison.
