Sri Lankas promising opener Pathum Nissanka is out from the first test against Ireland which started yesterday at Galle International cricket Stadium.

Nissanka the 24 year right hander already played nine tests scoring 537 runs at an average of 38.35. He has scored a century and five fifties and has scored 713 runs with 6 fifties in 23 ODI’ s and played 42 T20’s having 1098 runs with nine fifties.

His started with confidence in all three formats but later during the last Indian series had a back injury and missed a few games. Due to this injury he couldn’t play against New Zealand in two test matches and only was able to play T20 ‘ s and ODI’ s. He scored only one fifty in the second New Zealand ODI in Hamilton.

Why this player (Nissanka) not included in the test squad and this is the talking point at this stage. Daily News learnt that Nissanka couldn’t get greenlight from the medical staff of the team after he returned home from New Zealand. It is learnt that Nissanka is allowed to have a period of recovery between the New Zealand white ball series and start of the Ireland test series.

Further to learnt that this medical recommendation is in consideration of his recent back problem ( which occurred last January) which he required extensive rehab and period of recovery time.

His back was good during the New Zealand white ball tour and by giving him a longer time to recover. That will keep it being managed successfully. Pathum Nissanka will resume skill training from Next week and most probably he will be available for the world Cup qualifying round tournament in Zimbabwe.

Actually when the player gets injured he should have a recovery period and if he plays too early (during recovery period he could aggravate his injury said a Medical expert attached to the Sports Medical unit.

Our players are in a hurry to get back to the game after injuries and this is the main reason players couldn’t completely recover from the injuries. For an example, Kusal Janith Perera had a shoulder injury and then underwent surgery and after full fitness he was back for the New Zealand T20 series.

Sri Lanka cricket has a new rehabilitation unit for the players and our players should get treatment from it.
