Minister Devananda meets Batti, Eastern fishermen

Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda held a discussion on problems of the fishing community in the Batticaloa District and in the East at the Batticaloa District Secretariat on Monday (10).

The Minister, Rural Road Development State Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan and Batticaloa Government Agent Kalamathy Pathmaraja were present.

Minister Devananda suggested various solutions to the problems and instructed security forces and coastal guards to prevent illegal fishing.

State Minister Chandrakanthan referred to prawn farming in Vaddavan, Vakarai and said that aquatic resources must be used maximum in this regard. Although there are a number of lagoons in the region, they are not being used effectively.

Therefore, promoting aquatic farms for fish, crab and prawns farming was highlighted in the discussion.

The Divisional Secretaries and the relevant officials were present.
