Sonal guides Dambulla to a one-wicket win

Promising all-rounder Sonal Dinusha scored a fluent knock of 53 and captured 2 for 34 as Dambulla recorded a thrilling one-wicket win with seven balls to spare against Kandy in their National Super League One-Day encounter played at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium yesterday.

It was a very close game between the two teams with Kandy first scoring 239 and Oshada Fernando hit run a ball 76 and Lahiru Udara hit run a ball 52 to build up the total. The wrist spinner Lakshan Sandakan was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 37 well supported by Lahiru Samarakoon the paceman and spinner Sonal Dinusha taking two wickets apiece.

Dambulla in their chase, Pavan Ratnayake, who opened the innings scored 34 while all-rounder Kamindu Mendis (26) and experienced Ashan Priyanjan (24) hit useful knocks but middle order batter former Mahanamian Sonal Dinusha hit 66 ball 53 with 4 fours paved the way to reach the target in 48.5 overs. Movin Subasinghe and Ashian Daniel took three wickets each for Kandy but it was in vain as Dambulla have already booked their place in the final of this NSL tournament.

Meanwhile, the experienced paceman Nuwan Pradeep made an early breakthrough to finish 3 for 31 as Colombo recorded an easy 71-run win over Galle in their match played at SSC grounds yesterday.

Sachitha Jayatilleka hit a fine knock of 58 while opener Sithara Gimhana hit 44 for winning the Colombo team.
