Man remanded for defrauding Rs. 1,375 Mn from bitcoins

An individual, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department over the defrauding Rs.1,375 million through BINANCE social media, was ordered to be remanded till April 6 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis yesterday.

The Criminal Investigations Department informed the Magistrate that the suspect has been arrested following a complaint lodged by a female.

The CID further noted that it was reported that the suspect had joined with this complainant to increase the bitcoins which belonged to the complainant.

When the case was taken up before the Magistrate, the suspect was found guilty regarding the charges levelled against him. The CID also stated that they are conducting further investigations into the incident.
