The documentary film Viyasiduru produced for the first time by a university will be screened from Thursday (23).
The film was directed by Prabhath Agampodi, a lecturer of Kelaniya University. The undergraduates who are studying film and television contributed to its creation parallel to a research project they undertook.
The film will turn a new page in the history of the Sri Lankan film industry as it is the first to come out from a university.
The film has received several international accolades. It received the award for the ‘First Time Feature Film’ at the Third Boden International Film Festival (BIFF) held in Sweden.
It received an award for the ‘Best Debut Filmmaker of Feature Film’ at the Indo French International Film Festival in 2021, and a Special Jury Award for the Best Debut Feature Film at the Golden Sparrow International Film Festival in 2021.
It received awards for the ‘Best High Schools Film’ at the Madonie Film Festival, Region of Sicily, Italy in 2021, the ‘Best International Feature Film at the Port Blair International Film Festival in 2021, and the ‘Best Postmodern Film’ at the Tagore International Film Festival.
