Cannot approve actions of trade unions - Maha Sangha

The Maha Sangha have emphasized that the actions of the trade unions that seek to achieve political goals cannot be approved of at a time when the country is facing  a severe economic recession. The Maha Sanga said the country is barely on the verge of recovering from the economic recession. “Pointing out that what is needed at this time is for everyone to support the current government to build the country with patience, the Maha Sangha said that they detest the agitating of professionals in workplaces for the sake of political party power.

The Sabaragamuwa University Chancellor Aggamaha Panditha Prof.Kumburugamuwe Vajira Thera said that strikes and threats are not suitable for the country at this time when the country isfacing great economic difficulty. The monk said that at a time when the country as well as the people are facing various difficulties, it is not at all appropriate to inconvenience the country further. He also said that at this time, everyone should work together to build the country with one mind and national spirit.

Different countries of the world have different difficulties like us. They also work to advance their countries with national sentiments. The people of our country have a good understanding about culture. We are rich in religious education. Therefore, our people should be very patient at this moment of time. We should act without bringing the country into chaos. I don’t think it is appropriate to do such things, the monk also said.

Chief Incumbent of Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya Most Ven. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Thera said this is not the right time to have strike as the country is facing unprecedented economic crisis. Commenting on the strike to be launched by several trade unions in the country today said that the strike will do nothing but put the country into deeper crisis.

“It is true that the people and the professionals have issues. But this is not the right time to go for a strike”, he said.
