Two bowlers, left arm seamer Lahiru Samarakoon 4 for 60 and experienced leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga 5 for 44 excelled as Dambulla recorded a 75-run win over Galle to clinch the National Super League Championship in their final game played at Galle International Cricket Stadium yesterday.

It was a poor batting display by Galle batters while the number one ICC leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga ended with an impressive match bag of 10 to seal the victory half an hour before lunch.

The Dambulla team led by Minod Bhanuka well controlled the game to record first innings points earlier and then fought back to pose a big challenge to opponents Galle led by Sangeeth Cooray. In fact Galle scored 654 for 9 wickets while Pasindu Sooriyabandara hit 241 in their semi final game last week but this time Wanindu Hasaranga struck heavily to take wickets at regular intervals while seamer Lahiru Samarakoon played a good supporting role making the early breakthrough to win the game.

The young Pathum Kumara hit 78 in the Galle first innings while 20-year-old all rounder Dunith Wellalage hit an unbeaten 52 in 79 balls with 5 fours but was unable to win the game. Wellalage who took 5 for 58 later scored a fighting half-century but had no stable batsmen to support him to chase their winning target.

The former Royal skipper Ahan Wickramasinghe and Shashika Dulshan won the Best Batsman and Best Bowler of the tournament awards while Galle skipper Ramesh who was away in New Zealand for the Test series was named Best Player of the tournament. Sri Lanka Cricket vice president Ravin Wickramaratne and tournament Director Samantha Dodanwela were the chief guests and gave away the awards.
