The National Cricket selection committee has done a tremendous job to select players for the National team and the appointed Provincial selection committee gave their best to select players for the domestic tournaments such as National Super League (NSL), Major clubs three day tournament and Inter club under 23 tournament.

Their selection policy is very clear and they always consider current performances and fitness level of the players which are very important to select the team.

The present selection committee headed by Promodya Wickramasinghe is doing a decent job while their intentions are very clear and no one interferred with the selections said former Sri Lanka Skipper Mahela Jayawardena in an interview with the Daily News.

Meanwhile during this ongoing NSL four day tournament the selectors picked the test squad for New Zealand and 17 member squad already departed to New Zealand. Two new players Milan Ratnayake a product of Sri Sumangala College Wariyapola got a chance to enter the test squad and the most successful batter of the three day major tournament Nishan Madushka the 23 year old right hander from Ragama CC is also in the Test squad. Madushka completed thousand runs and was in terrific form during the recently concluded England Lions series against Sri Lanka ‘A’ team.

Madushka the product from Moratuwa MV easily became the most successful stroke player having scored 150 in the three day game against England lions and 241 and 100 in the two four day tests against England Lions at Galle. Meanwhile the opener Lasith Croosepulle who is in top form in the on going NSL tournament and England Lions series will probably get a chance to enter the National T-20 squad and young paceman from Trinity Mateesha Pathirana who has a slinger action like Lasith Malinga also may be picked for the T-20 squad.

All rounder Sahan Arachchige the former Anandian and currect NCC player tipped to be the latest addition to the ODI squad and is a good choice at this white ball format like Dhananjaya de Silva . Pathum Nissanka who was not picked for the test squad due to injury may be picked for New Zelaland ODI and T-20 series while, Dunith Wellalage, Paraveen Jayawickrama and Dushan Hemantha are fighting for the leg spinner slot. There are many options for the National team slots with experienced players like Angelo Matthews, Kusal Janith Perera have been recalled for the National team. Matthews for Test and ODI squad while Kusal Janith for T-20 squad based on their performances.

The slectoras have asked Kusal Janith to play for NSL one day maches to prove his ability. In addition Dushmantha Chameera the ace paceman of the National team is recovering from injury and will be considered for the ODI and T-20 squads. SLC already has a players rehabilitation unit and the injured players have to work out at this unit and they should get greenlight from this rehabilitation unit to be considered for selections. This is a good move from the SLC.

The T-20 and ODI squads for the New Zealand have been selected awaiting Sports Ministry approval and the process of the selection is very clear and any player who is selected or not for the National team, Sri Lanka ‘A’ team, Emerging team or National under 19 team can ask about the selection policy from the selectors.
