Former Sri Lankan all-rounder Farveez Maharoof has withdrawn from the Constitutional Committee appointed to create a new constitution for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

Last week, Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe appointed a 10-member committee to submit a draft of the proposed new constitution for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). The committee comprised of Dr. Duminda Hulangamuwa, Dr. Ariththa Wickramanayake, President’s Counsel Harsha Amarasekera, Major General (Retd) Renuka Rowell, Deepthika Kulasena, Gayal Kalatuwawa, Hariguptha Rohanadeera and former cricketers Charith Senanayake and Farveez Maharoof

The former National all rounder Maharoof on his Twitter message explained reasons for his withdrawal and expressed gratitude to the sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe for accepting his request.

When Daily News contacted Maharoof, he said I met Sports Minister yesterday at the Sports medical Bio Mechanism Laboratory observation visit and gave my resignation letter. Actually I have no idea about this constitutional activities and no idea to work with this committee added Maharoof.

“The Maharoof twitter message stated *Thank you, Hon. Sports Minister for releasing me from the committee appointed to create a new constitution for SLC. I feel my area of expertise is mainly on the technical matters of the game, and not on constitutional matters. As such, I feel that I can make a better contribution to technical matters and not on policy and law,” he said.

Maharoof who was the former National under 19 team Manager presently works as the expert cricket commentator and analyst.
