YouTuber Sepal released after apology in court

Social media activist Sepal Amarasinghe, who was arrested and remanded for  making a statement insulting Sri Dalada Maligawa, Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy, was ordered to be released from the case filed against him.

The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis.

Senior Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing on behalf of the Criminal Investigations Department informed the Magistrate that they are ready to conclude the case if the defendant Sepal Amarasinghe will tender an unconditional apology.

SDSG Dileepa Piries also stated that they will not continue this case under the sections of International Covenant on Civil Political Rights Act, Antiquity Ordinance and Money Laundering Act.

Amarasinghe apologized to the Buddhist Affairs Commissioner, Archeology Director General and Ven.Anguruwelle Jinananda Thera, who appeared before court yesterday.
